World Cancer Day is observed on 4th February every year. Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) organises it. 

UICC was founded in 1933 and is based in Geneva, Switzerland. World Cancer Day - 2021, a global initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). As per the WHO (World Health Organisation), one out six deaths happen due to cancer, making this disease the second leading cause of death globally.World Cancer Day was originated at the first World Summit Against Cancer in 2000. It was held in Paris and was founded by the Union for International Cancer Control. World Cancer Day, organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and celebrated each year on 4 February, is an opportunity to rally the international community to end the injustice of preventable suffering from cancer.The theme for World Cancer Day 2021 is 'I Am and I Will.' ‘Majuli’ is located in Assam

The 15th Finance Commission has recommended a new embankment-cum-road for Assam’s 

river island Majuli. The commission has also recommended a project for the comprehensive development of the shakti shrine Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.The embankment-cum-road, once constructed, is expected to solve the perennial problem of erosion of Majuli and provide comfort for road travel around the island.Majuli or Majoli is a river island in the Brahmaputra River of Assam and in 2016 Majuli became the first island to be made a district in India.Majuli had an area of 880 square kilometres at the beginning of the 20th century, but having lost significantly to erosion it covers 352 square kilometres as at 2014. Majuli has shrunk as the river surrounding it has grown.Capital of Assam is Dispur and Largest city is Guwahati. The agreement on the extension of the New START entered into force on February 3. Russia and the United States exchanged relevant notes "NATO welcomes and fully supports the agreement between the United States and the Russian  Federation to extend the New START Treaty for five years. NATO Allies believe the New START  Treaty contributes to international stability, and Allies again express their strong support for its  continued implementation and for early and active dialogue on ways to improve strategic  stability

Texas, on Tuesday, in a repeat of an accident that 

destroyed a previous test rocket.

The Starship SN9 that blew up on its final descent, 

like the SN8 before it, was a test model of the 

heavy-lift rocket being developed by billionaire 

entrepreneur Elon Musk's private space company 

to carry humans and 100 tons of cargo on future 

missions to the moon and Mars.

Andy Jassy is going to be new Amazon CEO.

Jeff Bezos will step down as Amazon CEO and become the company's executive chairman later

this year. The transition, slated for the third quarter, will make Amazon Web Services' (AWS)

founder Andy Jassy Amazon's next chief executive officer.

Andy Jassy, who will replace Jeff Bezos as Amazon CEO , cuts a low profile outside of the wonky

world of cloud computing. But for much of the last decade he’s been arguably the most

important person in the tech industry.

This, even as the e-commerce company reported its third consecutive record profit and

quarterly sales above $100 billion for the first time in the December quarter of 2020.

Jeffrey Bezos is an American internet entrepreneur, industrialist, media proprietor, investor and

the founder and CEO of the multi-national technology company Amazon.

The first centi-billionaire on the Forbes wealth index, Bezos was named the "richest man in

modern history" after his net worth increased to $150 billion in July 2018.

In August 2020, according to Forbes, he became the first person in history to have a net worth

exceeding $200 billion, and as of January 2021, was reported to be the second-richest person in

the world, after Elon Musk.

THE Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) , Chandigarh recently launched its ‘PGI Amputee Clinic’, the first in India. The clinic, a collective effort of various experts and departments of the institute, strives to provide social, mental and physical support to its patients. An ‘Amputee Clinic,' the first of its kind in India, was launched in Chandigarh. With the aim of improving amputation patient care by providing a collection of services under one roof with significant coordination, clinic was formally inaugurated by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Director Prof Jagat Ram. This initiative will attempt to provide appropriate management to amputees to guide them in their path to rehabilitation in society and will support patients with facilities during their treatment and recovery.

Economic disruption is posing a major challenge to governments and undermining the ability of so many people to make a living.

Indo-U.S. joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas’ to begin in Rajasthanon February 8.

The 16th edition of Indo-US joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas’ will be held in Rajasthan

between February 8 and 21,

The exercise near the India-Pakistan border aims at enhancing cooperation and interoperability

between the two armies and will focus on counter-terrorism operations under the United

Nations mandate, the spokesperson said.

Exercise with US Army is significant in terms of security challenges faced by both the nations in

the backdrop of global terrorism. The joint military exercise will enhance the level of defence

cooperation between both armies which will also foster the bilateral relations between both

nations and reiterate India’s key role as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

Recently Oxford acknowledged ‘Aatmanirbharta’ as Hindi Word of the year 2020

‘Aatmanirbharta’ implying self-reliance has been named by Oxford Languages as its Hindi word

of the year 2020 as it “validated the day-to-day achievements of the countless Indians who dealt

with and survived the perils of a pandemic”.

In the early months of the pandemic when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India’s

COVID-19 recovery package, he emphasised the need to become self-reliant as a country, as an

economy, as a society and as individuals, in a bid to navigate the perils of the pandemic. There

was a massive increase in the usage of ‘Aatmanirbharta’ following the Prime Minister’s address,

highlighting its increased prominence as a phrase and concept in the public lexicon of India.

While the Hindi word of the year has great resonance for the year in which it was chosen, it

doesn’t mean that the word will automatically go into any Oxford dictionaries
